Problem:
You've had your web-site up for a while and you make occasional changes to page content. Either you built the site yourself or had a web-site designer do it for you. Now, you notice that some of the elements on the page don't quite seem to fit as they did originally. Maybe there's too much space between elements or text seems to run into other text or menu elements don't line up properly.
Comment:
This is an extremely common problem. When a web-site is built using tools such as Microsoft FrontPage, elements become confined to the dimensions the program originally set. If you aren't familiar with layout and style coding it can be very frustrating figuring out why nothing you try seems to fix the problem properly.
Solution:
Fixing layout problems can be extremely simple - or not! Most of the time a spacing problem is a $10 job. The "or not" part come into play if you want a permanent solution that allows you to make changes to your page with the layout automatically adjusting to your changes. Even the permanent solution can be inexpensive. It depends on how the page was originally coded.
Problem:
Your web-site is up and running, but the person or company that originally set up your site has disappeared from the face of the earth. You want to make a few changes to update the site but you don't have a clue who to contact or where to start.
Comment:
Over a period of time web-site building businesses come and go. But, if your web-site is up, somebody is hosting it and someone controls its content. A little research is in order.
Solution:
This can require a little detective work. You need to find out what contracts are in effect (if any) and who owns the rights to your site. You may even need to move your domain name (assuming you own it).
Problem:
Some of your customers have mentioned to you that they have problems using your web-site. They complain that it takes "forever" for it to load, it doesn't display at all or they tell you some of the buttons or links don't work for them.
Comment:
When you test your site on your computer, you tend to assume that what you see is what others see when they go to your site. Unfortunately that's not how the world wide web works. Everyone's experience is different in one respect or another. If the site was built with a Microsoft tool it may only work using a Microsoft browser.
